We have a Layton 25ft with bunks and a fold down bunk over the dinette that gives you your triple bunk.

RE: Food on a Stick -- at the local fair

The latest craze at our local fair is to deep fry everything... the worst is deep fried oreo cookies. I think the spaghetti on a stick is much more appetizing than a deep fried oreo.

Equestrian Campgrounds PA

My daughter's 4-H club has stayed at Green Lane in PA and is aware of Gettysburg's camps.... Does anyone know of other Equestrian Campgrounds in PA especially in the Central PA area?

RE: HALLOWEEN FUN??? SPOOOKY

Try Twin Grove in PA. We spent last Holloween there and they have a site decoration contest, trick or treating, and they have a scary haunted hayride (not meant in the least for small children.)

RE: Sesame Place Campgrounds

Try this one in Green Lane PA....http://www.homesteadcampground.com/
We had reservations earlier this year and had a change of plans. Reasonable rates and they advertise they are close to Sesame Place.

RE: We outgrew our TT

We also have a significant issue with our children and bunks. We are currently looking at buying a quad bunk tt, but as we have looked we have found that our ten year old daughter is only a few inches from not fitting (she is as tall as I am NOW)and the younger boys show promise of being even taller. I will say this, look at the dimensions of your bunks. Not all bunks are created equal and there are longer wider bunks. My husband is 6'2'' and he fits in the longer bunks. I think you answer is A the bigger bunks or B the toy haulers with the drop down bunk queens.

RE: Quad Bunks without all the Slides

We also have four kids and have a 25' Layton with no slides (at the time of purchase we really thought we didn't want slide outs.) It has a set of bunks, a pull- down bunk over the dinette, and we keep the dinette down as a bunk. We have a queen bed for ourselves. It is only a place to sleep and we have found that we would really like to have a true quad bunk. So when considering your options do not rule out a slide or other things unless your TV limits your choices.

RE: Thomas's english muffins

Just saw a news article on TV about this very subject. Cereals are being hit especially hard by this downsizing by the manufacturers in an attempt to hide the increase in price. With four kids.... smaller boxes of cereal are an injustice.

RE: Hershey, Pa to NY via Train

If you choose to see the Statue of Liberty on your trip don't forget to preorder your tickets online or its doubtful you will get to go into the statue. Been there done that!! By the way there is so much to do in the area, I would not travel to NYC on that trip, but make it a separate trip and spend the week visiting NYC attractions.

RE: Campgrounds in Hershey, PA

Hershey Highmeadows also has a significant deal on their discount tickets. You also can get into the park the night before for two hours for a preview. If your DW likes shopping there is the Hershey outlets and PA does not have a sales tax on clothing. :-)

RE: Wakeup times when camping with kids?

We have camped with children in a tent and a TT. It is much easier to keep the children inside and relatively quiet in a TT. Anyone who has tent camped knows as soon as the warm sun beats on the tent it is hard for anyone to sleep and even more difficult to keep everyone quiet until the "right" time to exit the tent. That being said if the happy noises of children playing bother you than ask at your reservation for a location NOT near the playground. The only time I have had a problem with the morning noise is when we asked for a tent site near the playground and they practically put us in the playground, therefor when we had some early morning risers take their children to the playground so not to bother their TT neighbors they actually woke an entire family of tenters. They were very apologetic, but in truth I asked for that site. Lesson learned :-)

RE: TrailManor

We're considering a TM (TrailManor) too. Thinking of towing behind a Honda Odyssey Van, but we are also open to the idea of trading the van in for a Ford Expedition, to allow us to tow a larger/heavier (and yet much cheaper) Jayco trailer. Size is an issue for us (I'm 6'7" tall) so we may have to bite the bullet and sell my DW's favorite vehicle. Everything I've read about the TM, suggests that it's a quality unit. Just not sure if our aging bones and muscles want to mess around with putting it up/down every time we want to move.
We went from a van last year to a expedition. Be prepared for the incredible increase in gas. It sure tows well, but I couldn't afford to drive it on an everyday basis. So I traded my other vehicle in for a used mini van to use every day.

RE: How you getting along with your 21-25 footer?

We have a 25 foot Layton. This particular model has a bunk, a cabinet bunk above the dinette, and a master bed-- no slide. We have four children, 9, 7, 3, & 1. We spend very little time inside the camper and for the most part it is our metal tent, for when we break down the table to have all their own sleeping area there is then no living space. On the occasion it rains we do use the master bed as a couch to watch movies and the dinette becomes the game area. There are times when we wish we had a bigger TT, but because their is not play room for all inside, it means we get better quality outside play and family time. I enjoy watching my children make friends with the other kids and seeing the good old fashioned outside play that takes place. At the last camp we visited this fall my older children played a pick-up game of football with other children... so much fun. :-). I think if I had two the TT would be more than enough room. If you plan on more kids than you must understand your limitions on inside time. Ask yourself the question what are you planning on doing with your TT while camping?
